Communications with Camper, Phone call Policy (No Phone Calls)
Part of the beauty of the summer camp experience is the ability of the camper to learn and feel inspired by his experience in the great outdoors. This includes the ability to explore, to wonder, to process and think, to make mistakes and to fix them, to fall and get up. Our campers gain a tremendous amount from their developing independence and self-reliance. We want our campers to communicate with their parents in ways that fit into this process. We encourage our campers to write letters home, and encourage parents to send letters often, too. When packing your son son for camp, please include letters and stamps with your son so he can write home to you. But please don’t worry if your camper doesn’t write often. If you don’t hear from your camper, most often the excuse is “I’m just too busy having fun!”
As part of this goal of character development, we have a policy that the campers do not talk on the phone during camp, whether with their parents or anyone else. There are no exceptions to this rule, including erev Shabbos. We also encourage parents to be in touch with our office to check up often on your child’s progress and well-being in camp. We also encourage you to check the camp pictures often so you can see your son’s one-of-a-kind smile. Your child will have many rich experiences in camp, and he will likely regale you with a flow of the stories that he has to share on phone call day, and again when he comes home!
Device Policy Continued
Camp Yagilu Wilderness encourages old-fashioned growth, character development, and methodical thinking. Technology is a wonderful gift when used well. Our campers will use many tools that have been invented over the centuries. In keeping with our wilderness theme, no devices are allowed in camp. This includes any device that can:
1. Make calls,
2. Connect to the internet, or
3. Play movies, even if there are no movies on the device.
4. Video games are also not allowed.
Campers who travel with a cell phone or other excluded devices should hand them in to camp staff immediately upon their arrival in camp. If they travel to camp on a camp bus or other camp vehicle, they should hand in their phone when they get on the bus. The phones will be returned on the bus leaving camp.
It is the campers’ responsibility to ensure that they have collected all of their electronics from the camp office prior to leaving. Those items left behind will be gladly shipped back to the family at their expense. Camp Yagilu bears no liability to the damage of those items during storage or shipping.
Any devices that are brought to camp and not given in within the first hour will be confiscated and not returned. We may donate, disable or destroy them, at our discretion.
We do encourage campers to bring inexpensive cameras, as long as they are not equipped with any of the above functions.
Camp Yagilu is not responsible for any belongings that children bring to camp. This includes damaged or lost laundry, clothing, cash, credit or debit cards, money, fishing gear, or anything else. Sometimes, campers’ belongings fall and get lost, or otherwise disappear during camp, The Camp also is not responsible for items that are left behind when the camper leaves. We strongly recommend that you do not send any valuable items to camp with your son. Any cash should be immediately deposited with the staff, and we will hold it responsibly, and return it at the end of camp.
Items that are left in camp after the camper leaves will be deemed ownerless and hefker. Any property brought to camp is brought so on condition that if it is left when the camper leaves, that is disowned (hefker). The camp is happy to try to help return objects left in camp. This is not a guarantee. Please be aware that it is almost impossible to find and identify personal belongings once a camper leaves camp.
Honesty
By applying, you verify that all information in the registration form is correct and true. If any of the information, especially regarding medical issues, allergies or hospitalizations is not true, the Camp may choose the best way to act, which may include sending the camper home with no refund of camp tuition.
We look forward to a safe and productive summer, full of adventure and growth. We look forward to Rule the Forest!
